World Animal Protection Appeals to Chief Minister of Rajasthan to End Elephant Rides on Occasion of World Elephant Day

World Animal Protection appealed to the Government of Rajasthan to permanently end elephant rides at Amer Fort in Jaipur. World Animal Protection stated that captive elephants suffer from chronic infections, arthritis, and severe psychological distress due to hard concrete surfaces, heavy howdahs, and brutal training. More than seventy-five individuals opposed the rides, seeking a transition to a cruelty-free model of Indian heritage tourism.
