Over 40 people injured in stray dog attacks in Assam’s Cachar, vaccine shortage alleged
More than 40 people, including children, sustained injuries in stray dog attacks across the greater Kalain area of Assam's Cachar district. Residents alleged that hospitals in Kalain and Katigorah faced a shortage of anti-rabies vaccines, forcing bite victims to travel to Silchar for treatment. According to local reports, a single dog suspected to be rabid attacked individuals starting in Padritilla, moved through Kalain Market and a local hospital's grounds, and continued to Karchowra and Gumra before being killed in Sadir Khal market. Residents stated that the vaccine shortage caused hardship for patients and their families while raising questions about the preparedness of local health facilities for such emergencies. They asked the health department to send adequate anti-rabies vaccine stocks to both hospitals and ensure prompt treatment for all injured persons.
