Delhi NCR RWAs have a new, raging battleground. Pets, poop and pedigree
Stray dogs, community dogs and domestic pets face mounting hostility in housing societies across Delhi and Gurugram over issues like waste, feeding, and access to common areas. Pet owners and residents frequently clash in WhatsApp groups and file police complaints, according to local residents and welfare representatives. Vasundhara Anand stated that indie pet owners and tenants face direct hostility from neighbours, noting, Indie pet parents and pet parents living in rental homes are first to be in the line of fire. Residents demand municipal pet registration certificates, while animal advocates cite Animal Welfare Board of India guidelines against harassment and restrictions on pets in elevators. Resident welfare associations often find themselves caught between animal advocates and aggrieved neighbours demanding strict curbs, while attempting to navigate competing claims over common spaces and animal feeding rules.
