A Study on Delay in Initiation of Post-exposure Prophylaxis among the Animal Bite Victims from a Tertiary Care Hospital in Central India.

A Study on Delay in Initiation of Post-exposure Prophylaxis among the Animal Bite Victims from a Tertiary Care Hospital in Central India.

A study conducted in Jabalpur, Central India, examined the delay in starting post-exposure prophylaxis (PEP) among 485 animal bite victims over six months. While most victims began PEP within 24 hours, a significant number, particularly those from rural areas and with superficial wounds, delayed treatment due to factors such as lack of knowledge and distance from healthcare facilities. The research highlighted associations between delay and specific wound types and victim literacy levels.
