A study conducted in central India from May to June 2025 examined delays in starting rabies post-exposure prophylaxis (PEP) among 323 animal bite victims at a hospital. The research found that 41% of victims experienced delays, primarily due to factors such as distance from vaccination centers, low income, and lack of awareness. Most bites were caused by dogs, and barriers included work commitments and clinic closures on holidays.
