A study developed a statistical framework to estimate human deaths from rabies globally, using data from deceased organ donors. It identified rabies cases in deceased donors in China and the US and estimated significant underreporting of rabies deaths in those countries. The framework suggests that India could have around 2,227 unreported deaths from rabies, highlighting the need for improved surveillance.
