Fatal encephalomyelitis outbreak among dairy cows caused by rabies virus phylogroup-1 with co-occurrence of Chlamydia abortus.

An outbreak of fatal encephalomyelitis occurred among seven dairy cows at a farm in India due to rabies virus phylogroup-1, which was confirmed through brain sample testing. The cows displayed symptoms including hypersalivation and muscle tremors, and post-mortem examination identified rabies as the primary cause of death. Additionally, Chlamydia abortus was detected in two of the cows, though its significance in this case is unclear.
