Questions about Feeding

Under Rule 20 of the ABC Rules, 2023, the RWA, apartment owners’ association or local body representative arranges feeding with residents who feed the dogs, and fixes agreed spots and times away from play areas, entrances and staircases.

An Animal Welfare Committee, including the Chief Veterinary Officer, police and local body, settles the dispute. Its decision on feeding spots is final, but can be appealed to the State Animal Welfare Board, under Rule 20 of the ABC Rules, 2023.

Its order of 22 Aug 2025 told municipal bodies to create dedicated feeding spaces in each ward, with notice boards, and said stray dogs must not be fed on the streets. People who do so can face legal action.

AWBI takes applications for Colony Animal Care Taker authorisation and publishes the list of letters issued on its Colony Animal Care Taker page.
