Lucknow Animal Birth Control Centre Opens for Dog Safety urbanacres.in. Urban Development Minister A.K. Sharma inaugurated India’s first training centre for Animal Birth Control to manage the population of stray dogs and community dogs in Lucknow, Uttar Pradesh. The minister said this facility will offer professional training to veterinarians and para-veterinary staff to enhance the standards of sterilisation surgeries. This project aims to standardise procedures under the Animal Birth Control Rules, 2023, to ensure the welfare of community dogs. Sharma stated that the project focuses on "the humane treatment of animals during the sterilisation process" to ensure their safety. The Urban Development Department said the centre will train employees from various municipal corporations across the state. This initiative addresses the lack of skilled personnel needed for large-scale sterilisation programmes. The minister noted that better training would help control the street dog population and reduce conflicts in urban areas. The department has not yet announced the start date for the first training session for municipal workers.
