Cramped truck, no food or water: 25 cattle being taken to Keralam for slaughter rescued
Police rescued 25 cattle found inside a cramped truck near Maraimalai Nagar Urban Acres in Chennai during their cattle transport to Kerala for slaughter. Officers intercepted the vehicle during a routine check. Police said the animals were tied so tightly they could not move, which violated the Transport of Animals Rules, 1978. This legislation and the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals Act, 1960 require that livestock in transit have adequate space, ventilation, and regular access to fodder. Police stated that the truck lacked a veterinarian certificate to move the animals across state lines. The cattle were sent to a local gaushala for care while an investigation continues to identify those responsible for the transport.
