Karnataka High Court Quashes Cow Slaughter Case After Police Conduct Raid Before Registering FIR

Criminal proceedings in a cow slaughter case were quashed in Karnataka after police conducted a raid before registering an FIR. Justice Rajesh Rai K held that the Hunsur Town Police Station violated mandatory requirements by searching a Shabbeer Nagar godown on February 26, 2023, before recording the FIR. The Court stated, “failure to register the FIR before proceeding with the raid and seizure… vitiates the proceedings.”
