Sociodemographic determinants, wound severity classification and economic impact of animal bites: a cross-sectional study at an anti-rabies clinic in rural Maharashtra, India

A study at an anti-rabies clinic in rural Maharashtra involved 400 new animal bite patients to examine socio-demographic factors and wound severity. The results showed that most patients were males aged 18-45, with the majority suffering severe bites from street dogs, particularly affecting the lower limbs. The study also highlighted significant absenteeism from work and school due to animal bites, resulting in economic loss for the affected individuals.
