Questions about Sanctuary

Yes. Section 9 of the PCA Act, 1960 asks the Animal Welfare Board of India to encourage, with grants or otherwise, pinjrapoles, rescue homes, animal shelters and sanctuaries where animals and birds can live when old or needing protection.

Sanctuaries run by AWBI-recognised organisations can apply under AWBI’s financial assistance schemes, including the scheme for shelters caring for old, distressed, homeless, injured and sick animals.

On the Directory, choose Sanctuary under Type, then your state. Based on its type, it may shelter animals that are old or need protection; check with it before visiting.
