Caring for community dogs in your area

Caregivers make ABC work. Dogs that are fed, known and vaccinated are calmer, healthier and easier to manage.

Feeding

  • Feed at the same time and place, away from entrances, play areas and busy paths.
  • Clean up after feeding so food does not attract other animals or cause complaints.
  • Follow any feeding arrangements set by your local authority or residents’ association, and check the Library for the latest court orders.

Health

  • Make sure the dogs in your area are sterilised and vaccinated. Contact your municipal ABC programme or a local organisation from the directory.
  • Keep a simple record of each dog: description, sterilisation and vaccination dates.

Neighbours

  • Talk to neighbours early. Explain that sterilised, vaccinated dogs keep the area safer.
  • Help resolve problems calmly. Most complaints are about feeding spots or noise and can be solved locally.
