What you can do

  • Put up a nest box under a roof edge or balcony, out of reach of cats and out of direct sun.
  • Grow native shrubs and hedges, where sparrows find insects for their chicks.
  • Leave a shallow bowl of clean water, changed daily.
  • Don’t trim hedges in the nesting season, and don’t use pesticides near them.
  • An injured bird? Take it to a bird hospital or rescue group. Find one in the Directory.
